Now that Bucks market has left Yacht Harbor does anyone know if another grocery will be moving into that space? They still have their wholesale store on the road to the Baths. But, with a mall and cinema being built across from the RTW, which is near Bucks wholesale, traffic just might turn a little busy. Thoughts anyone? Knowledge, even?

even including the parking lot, doesn't appear to be enough real estate for a 200 room hotel, unless they go with several floors.

And, who will stay there? It is not near a beach like Little Dix, and an overnight on VG doesn't make much sense. Yacht Harbor is not the best place for a resort with pool, beach bar, etc. Buck's was perfect for YH. I don't get it.

I agree with you. Also no good beach, except near the ferry dock

Rumor is that One Mart from Tortola might open a grocery store in the Yacht Harbor to replace Bucks. Also, heard in November that the mall, cinema, bowling alley across from RTW ran out of money from investors.

Have not seen any construction on the mall, movie theater for about 1 year. Why would you start a project like this without all the funding?

I heard the story of One Mart as well. The local that told me had heard that the Owner of One Mart is an investor in the new expanded yacht harbor, boat yard for larger yachts . They have run into a snag getting firm enough ground support for the new huge lift.

We've heard that the whole center is being rebuilt. Everything is shutting down there, on both sides of the parking lot. Buck's new store is bigger, but not fully stocked, yet. The wholesale moved upstairs. Leverick Bay grocery store has expanded a bit. Fairly well stocked. To top it all off, the road in front of the yacht harbor is about to be shut down for a couple of months while they rebuild it.

The shopping center that they built 10 years ago by the boat yard in VG has yet to have a viable business in it other than the bank. Completely empty, eyesore.

I believe there is a car rental company but basically it is a bust. Someone is taking a bath.

Thanks Nick for the information! It's going to feel a bit weird not shopping for groceries in VGYH. And Bath and Turtle/Rendevous leaving also? Where?

Lots of smaller shops in the area of Bath and Turtle. Dive BVI, First Caribbean Bank, the gift shop , the ice cream shop, and a couple of others.
Rose is taking a beating. Suspect she will try and relocate at Chez Bamboo. At least she owns that. The other shops, unknown.

Losing Bucks at the marina is a huge loss. Not many charter people will walk the considerable distance to the wholesale store (and back with groceries).
There was also a person at the dinghy dock in the marina collecting $2 per person to use the dinghy dock. That was certainly a surprise!

Sitting on my veranda in a Leverick Bay Resort villa enjoying the last of eight nights here. Heading for Tortola tomorrow. Had after dinner drinks with Rose two nights ago at her Chez Bamboo. Seems like most of the rumors have lots of truth. Entire marina being redone. Mammoth travel lift seems too heavy for the current ground. Rose most likely will lose Bath and Turtle and Rendezvous but keep Chez Bamboo. She has her eye on some other nearby property. Stay tuned. By the way Rosy market is superb and Leverick Chefs Pantry is very good. y

We've always found VGYH to be convenient and comfortable. Just 3 weeks ago we did some shopping at Buck's (guess we caught it just before it shut down) and had an excellent dinner at the Bath & Turtle. I hope whatever changes they're making turn out well.
By the way, "mammoth" is the right word for that travel lift. Rated for 300 tons, which seems almost beyond belief!

300 ton's? How big a boat is that and how will it get past the right angle turn into yacht harbor without running aground? Oh, and say goodbye to the regular charter boat's. And a question here: in the past we have seen the cruise ships tourists from Roadtown who were visiting the Baths in line for their ferry boats back to Tortola outside of Bucks to board home from Yacht Harbor. Are they now coming into the regular ferry dock? If so, will this impact regular ferry service?

What I find amazing and sad is that I received an E-Mail from the Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor early February. Stated that they are improving the landscaping but not a word about everything else going on. Completely false advertising. Why not be truthful. Sad!

No the new lift is in the area between the yacht harbor and the customs area at the ferry dock. The vacant area between the road by ferry dock all the way down to the area where bucks is will be the yard for the big boats and assume those facilities needed by people who work on them. I believe the yacht harbor and boatyard for normal sized vessels will remain as is. Nobody seems to know exactly what specific plans are for changes in the businesses and buildings. I've heard they would all be razed and then replaced. I've heard about condos..seriously doubt that one. I've heard one mart was coming into bucks old building. The staff at the yacht harbor don't know for sure. and the people that do don't seem to be sharing.
