We are going to try our hand at smoking some boston butts while we are camping this summer. Any tips, ideas, recipes, etc. please pass along.

What would concern me is who is going to watch the fire? If you're talking about smoking a decent sized piece of BB than you've got to expect about 4-6 hours at a very low temp. There will be a lot of fat and juice, so you'll want an elevated grill, or a heavy foil pan. The key is low and slow, which means someone to watch the fire, and make sure the temp and fire stay right. we're usually not at the campsite during the day when we go, so 4-6 hours tending the fire probably wouldn't work for us. If you've got a campsite where this would work, and someone would be there, than I think it's perfect camping food!1 Make sure you've got some good colelsaw and rolls for a BBQ sandwich!! I've gotten many great grilling tips and rubs/marinades from Steven Raichlen. Google him and you'll find some great ideas!

We will be taking a smoker with us and we do have someone who wants to be responsible for the smoker/fire. We will be camping for 8 nights in a state campground so we are looking for a few things to fill the time besides swimming, boating, jet skiing, etc. We are planning to have fun, fun, fun and I am all for someone else cooking dinner! If you have any recipes for rubs, etc. please pass them on. Cole slaw and baked beans are on the menu for that night too. It is a large crowd ranging from 10-20 people at any given time during the week so big meals will be on the table.

http://www.barbecuebible.com/featured/howtogrill/basic_barbecue_rub.phphttp://www.barbecuebible.com/Here are 2 links for you. The first is a rub I have used that's really good, and very basic. You can't go wrong with it, but it's not very unusual. Would go great on the BB. The second link is to a good webiste of Steven Raichlen's and it has lots of recipes, and technique info too that might help. Glad you've got someone to watch the smoker, sounds like a good dinner!!

I made this (link below) for a family reunion camping trip. I made it at home ahead of time and re-heated the pulled pork at camp. It was a hit. It was all gone in no time flat. The crusty and really burnt outside, makes it taste even better when it is all mixed together.
