Due to ferry schedules and early flight times out of St. Thomas we have started spending the last night of our vacation in St. Thomas. We have now stayed at two different places that required cab rides to the airport. This year we are looking at the Island Beachcomber, both for relatively inexpensive room prices and easy access to the airport. We don't need fancy. Any input here? We plan on taking Speedy's 2:45 Tuesday ferry from Virgin Gorda direct to Charlotte Amalie, so we won't have a big day in St. Thomas and won't be looking for a lot to do. Just dinner, maybe a beach walk, and early to bed early to rise for a Wednesday flight. Suggestions, input, etc much appreciated...

I stay there several times a year when leaving St. John or the BVI. The rooms are clean...staff is friendly...decent bar/restaurant by the beach. I always get a late check out so I can hang out on the beach & have some lunch before my flight rather than sit in the airport. You can certainly walk to the airport. It is most definitely not fancy but for one night it's fine and less than Emerald Beach.

+1 What they said.
Walk the beach to Emerald for a toddy for some time between cocktails <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

Anyone have experience with Miller Manor in St Thomas?

Not so impressed with Miller Manor. The wife and I love staying at Mafolie on our way out of St. Thomas -- for the view and the food ;-)

Loved Miller Manor and the owners. Stayed there 5 or 6 times over the years and maybe more. It is definitely not a 5 star resort but worked for us. Easy walk to Frenchtown and cab back. Found them because they accepted pets.

I believe the regular checkout is 11. Not sure about that as I always leave late.
Oceana is awesome! Last time I was there I was alone, sat at the bar and let the bartender suggest what to eat off menu & accompanying wines. Then I walked to Rum Shandy, had a drink and listened to some great music.
For many years I stressed about making it to the airport on time...ferry schedules...returning rental car....etc. Now I just tack an extra day onto my trip and it takes all the stress out of the situation. Also I am much less tired when I get home.

Ditto on Mafolie. Stayed there night before last after an 8 day charter with TMM and absolutely loved it.
