Just came across a batch of photos of SXM from the early 80's. Some of you might find them interesting.

It appears one has to have a snapfish account and log in to see the photos.

I don't have a snapfish account and I was able to view them, but not sure what many or most of them are. Are they your pictures? If so, would love a description of them.

I think there were a few taken from Cupecoy (preconstruction of the huge buildings there) facing towards the condos (Cupecoy Beach Club maybe?) and Mullet Beach in the distant background; a few of the original Caravanserai Resort perhaps but not certain about that; and perhaps a few at the long gone Dawn Beach Resort? The photos of Marigot before the Sandra Bullock movie were nice including the ones of la Vie en Rose and what may have once been La Maison sur la Porte? And then again, I could very well be mistaken....

It took a while to open but was well worth the wait. Thank you for a stroll down memory lane.

Neither do I, but there was a small menu line displayed when I brought them up last night that i can't find now. Maybe I just don't know the workings of Snapfish.

Not to worry, Rbailey. Just getting to see them was a treat all by itself.

A lot of the pictures are of the old Dawn Beach Hotel now the Westin. One shot is in the direction of OBBR which was just a small hotel. If you stayed at Dawn Beach you could also dine at the OBBR, which only had I think about 10 rooms. Went to Dawn Beach Hotel in 1985 when we were there on our honeymoon. Dawn Beach had an all inclusive meal plan and it was a good deal because there wasn't many places to eat in the area. You really didn't want to be driving in the dark coming back from Orient or Phillipsburg due to the poor roads.

We were at Dawn Beach About a week before the storm ,things were not great then , they were having electrical problems light kept going out , but all & all it was a great place . Who said you can't build more land , they rebuilt the water front in Marigot and added about 150 ft I must say it does look good

Dick,

We are so lucky to have known Marigot back in those days, too, before they tore down so many of the old island buildings with their lovely lattice and grill works, and extended the village into the bay.

Re the power outages back then, I guess some things just never change! Just ask the people living there today.

One of the very fortunate things the Towers developers did during construction was to put in place their own generator for emergency situations but, OMGoodness, when OUR generator goes down, too!? It doesn't happen often, thank goodness - but when it does......Suffice it to say, those are the days I dish we had a ground floor unit.....

pat: You have a memory like an elephant. Haven't seen Dawn Beach Resort photos like those before. Wish Cupecoy still had that much sand.

It's amazing what we can recall when its of interest to us. Now if only I could recall what I was going to make for dinner tomorrow night....
