This is my first attempt at doing a trip report, my intentions are always good but never seem to get around to it. So here goes..............First mistake booking with Delta, never again. We were delayed 5 minutes out of Albany, NY, arrived in Atlanta a few minutes late with only 50 minute to begin with for our connecting flight. Needless to say we missed our connection, when we got off I asked the agent at the gate if they could possibly call the gate to let them know we were headed to the gate they refused, we were 2 of 6 passengers who were on the plane that missed the connection so it’s not like they would have been holding the plane for just the 2 of us. So we arrived a day late.
Marius met us at the airport with our Jeep, phone, and beach chairs, I love that guy. It’s always such a pleasure to do business with him. It makes things so much easier with 1 stop shopping with him. He also has nightly rentals if need for prior or post timeshare days.
Restaurants: We keep this portion real simple, UNCLE HARRY’S twice delicious food, great service. Boathouse we went there after attempting at 8:45 to go into Turtle, we used to love eating at TP, but were disappointed this trip. First were told no fryer, so we decided not to stay (I was dying for their coconut shrimp) she checked the kitchen at that point said we were good they could do the shrimp, sat down order a diet coke & iced tea. She came back to our table said “sorry no fried items” we decided again to leave, they wanted us to pay for the 2 drinks, which we had not even been served yet, so we left and didn’t return (damn I’m still longing for those coconut shrimp) oh well next trip we got some at boat house and they were very good .LADY C twice my husband had all you can eat ribs, I’m not a real fan of ribs but these are the best I have ever tasted (other than Danny’s @ Cupecoy) PIZZA GALLEY One night take out next time the 2nd night my husband did all u can eat ribs @ Lady C. I can’t say enough about both places great food, great friendly staff. PIZZA PLACE @ ATLANTIS CASINO I can’t remember the name , the food was good, but the service was lacking.PASTA CAFE Just O.K.certainly wouldn't rush back.BEACHES Cupecoy @ Sapphire, Cupecoy by Danny, both area had beach more by Danny than at Sapphire, Friars Bay, so we went because we had heard such great things about it but we were not all that impressed. Our 2nd week we spent a lot of time at Royal Palm beach, we like it there certainly not the great white sand beaches else where but it so calm, we were able to sit with our chairs in the surf, and also went out on our floats a lot.
SAPPHIRE was our home for the 1st week overall the resort does not seem as bad as we had been hearing, our unit 300 end of the hall towards the OC end unit and in my opinion the best superior studio there it was the last one completed so our unit is still in great shape with the exception of the furnishing and linens getting a bit old faded and worn. Our biggest compliant was no toilet tissue we asked our house keeper several time for mor & got none, went to the desk 1 night and was told she would give me 1 but she only had 2 so she needed to save one. We finally gave up and bought some in the store. Only other issue was no wash clothes, but I always bring my own when we travel as it is often a problem. I can’t believe that they are still trying to sell units to owners. Like we aren’t aware of all the problems. So their sales pitch ended up with them listening to our complaints for 1 hour. For a change I wasted their time. They tried to get us to go int the office to settle any unpaid maint. Or asses. but we didn’t bother. Let them go them go through the hassle of trying to get extra $$$$ from us. Our 2nd week ROYAL PALM This is when we realized how much our maint. $$’s are being misused. The resort is in top condition, all redone, new furniture, appliances, granite counter tops beds, linens, kitchen completely redone all new cabinets, the whole unit repainted etc. They pay little more for a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit ALL of which are beachfront. Had a great week there. I wish we owned there instead of Sapphire.
We never had much of an issue of traffic. Over all the island looks green, lush, and cleaner than I have seen ever. As far as safety we felt safe you just have to keep in mind not to let down your guard. I don't feel any more threatened ion SXM than I do when we visit my husbands family in Philly, Common Sense is the key here. A lot of police presence, we were on the Dutch side most of our time we tried to go to Grand Case for Harmony Nights but there had been a little shower, so they canceled. I guess they didn’t want to get their costume feathers wet.
The new airport is beautiful. We got to exit our plane on the runway so we still got to feel that 1st warm blast of Caribbean air. We did have 3 days of rain so we were glad to have 2 weeks and not only 1. I took a few pic’s so I will work on getting them posted. Hopefully my report was of interest to some.
