We arrived via Westjet via Toronto on St. Martin on 10/21 and departed on 10/30 for a total of 9 days and 10 nights. We missed Gonazlo and the flooding in early November. Weather was GREAT!, full sun for the week. We only had sporadic rain on the last 2 days. Nothing compared to our friends back home in Vancouver, who had to deal with daily deluges. We do not drive and as such depended on Mr. Wilfred Brooks for most of our transportation. We will rent a vehicle next time as the taxi does start to eat in to the budget and as we were at Mt. Vernon, we were the farthest away from everything. For mosquitoes, I only missed 1 spot on my foot on our first night and swiftly received 14 bites whilst at dinner. Lesson learned and we developed a daily routine of showering, moisturizing, applying sunscreen and then a full head to toe drenching in DEET. We repeated as neccesary throughout the day. In regards to hurricane damage, we saw beach bars open daily on Orient Beach and road crews were out daily cleaning the roads. We were surprised at how quickly the clean up was done and were truly impressed by the loacls attitude. We did not enjoy much nightlife this trip, but we did enjoy our bar at Mt. Vernon. For food, we were surprised by how good EVERYTHING was no matter where we went from roadside grills to 5 star restaurants. I also enjoyed grocery shopping and cooking for us when I had the chance to do so. This is truly the friendly island! I was looking for a gay friendly island in the Caribbean for our honeymoon and found St. Martin/St.Maarten to be at the top of the list. Nowhere did we run into any issue and were able to walk hand in hand most places. Most people when they found out it was our honeymoon went out of their way to congradulate and celebrate with us. Loved it, loved it and will GLADLY be back in the near future. Thanks to TTOL for ALL of the ideas and suggestions. I also forgot somewhere along the way to mention that we went for the lobster buffet at Le Mini Club and we ate and ate for almost 2.5 hours. Cannot recommend it enough. Lastly, I am having issues loading photos; but will keep trying. Again, thanks to you all
