I wonder how some things manage to get past the spitballing stage let alone focus groups?
I wonder if it's kind of like becoming nose-blind to a certain smell. Somebody says to their designers "Hey, no restrictions - come up with a new design that incorporates solar, electrics, all the buzz words". They get some designs and start playing with them, tweaking this or that. After a while, they are so focused on function that they are blind to the developing form (or lack thereof). Yeah, still has to make it past non nose-blind people but maybe it could happen that way???
