Racist quip? I'm going to come to the defense of my friend here and suggest that it's up to you to explain how this is racist rather than asking George to explain how it's not
Well, he said - seemingly sarcastically - that it would be traumatic if the Juneteenth celebrations were marred by nuclear vaporization. Juneteenth is a holiday recognizing the emancipation of the last slaves in the US. If you sarcastically state that it would be "traumatic" if those celebrations (and celebrators?) were vaporized, it sounds like you are saying those celebrations are unwarranted, or misguided, or otherwise unworthy and it wouldn't be such a bad thing if the people doing the celebrating were killed.
That sounds somewhat racist to me. Did I read that wrong? That's what I was asking him. I'm now curious as to what YOU thought he meant. He hasn't come back to explain the strange comment and what he meant.
I'm sure this thread will now get locked but I felt compelled to call this out rather than just take the easy way out and just ignore it.
