This is indeed crazy stuff going on over there . And so thats why on another thread here you started that you want to plan an extended vacation there??? It’s all relative…the cartel violence is indeed “a thing” here. It’s one of the two reasons we decided to sell our home here and visit other Carib nations we feel safer in. But I’d guess 99+% of tourists never see these events, and almost as many never read of them. And of course there are less touristy areas that are safer. But as a first-time visitor, an informed traveler is a smarter traveler…
