As many of you may remember, a couple weeks ago the classic sailboat "Ppalu" had an unfortunate brush with a reef in Simpson Bay and promptly sank. The boat has since been salvaged and now ironically sits back on land only a few hundred feet from where she was originally launched from the beach in Cole Bay almost 37 years ago.
The boat has quite a history, and I'm not sure if many of you are aware that all the history began in St Martin as Peter Spronk was one of the biggest builders of large performance catamarans in the world at the time, from right here in SXM, and this was his flagship that set records worldwide.
Pretty interesting story, and this video covers the story of the boat and the owners, and what they are up against in trying to restore and preserve her.
I thought some of you may enjoy, and if anyone chooses to help with the cause I'm sure the owners will show tremendous appreciation.. even all their tools were lost or destroyed in the salvage operation.
