Most of us are interested in what is going on now and in the future, not the past. The owner passed away just before the hurricane and his son Phillippe Verdier is in charge now. He is working tirelessly to make Sapphire what it was when it opened. There is a new manager with extensive resort experience who is doing an excellent job. When we were there in 2/19 the rooms that were renovated were beautiful with new appliances and furniture. As mentioned, the pool area and bar are immaculate and well maintained. They have a way to go but are definitely going in the right direction. The location near Porto Cupecoy ( great restaurants and market) and proximity to Maho, which is being rebuilt as most know, will make this one of the most desirable places on the island. They will get their RCI certification soon. When we stay in our villa, you can practically reach out and touch the ocean while cooling off in the dipping pool. You can hear the ocean waves at night. I am not aware of another place to stay closer to the water. I am glad we kept our timeshares and are looking forward to going back next year. 34 years visiting SXM and can't get enough.
